First – thank you to everyone who pointed out the latest research on dogs improving office productivity, reported in The Economist, The New York Times, The Globe & Mail etc.
While we always appreciate having empirical evidence as support, everyone at fisheye already intuitively understood this. Having a dog underfoot or stretched out beside you on a couch makes for a more relaxed and creative environment. Of course, the canine must be hypoallergenic and well behaved and be willing to take a vacation day for clients that just aren’t that crazy about canines.
We’re all about ideas, so we’ve also avoided traditional office furniture. For instance, our “whiteboard” is instead a giant chalkboard. Imagine grabbing that dry erase marker. Now imagine grabbing the giant piece of chalk. Which one takes you to more interesting and ultimately more productive places?
We have big communal tables instead of desks to encourage collaboration. We have comfy sofas and chairs. In fact, our only piece of office furniture is a huge file cabinet hidden away in the back room for Rebecca, our Queen of Numbers.
We refer to 293 Augusta Avenue as fisheye’s home rather than office. And we bought that home in the heart of Kensington Market. Diversity breeds innovative thinking and Kensington Market is Diversity Central!
