Things we won’t be bothering with in our new offices
- A landline. We all have cellphones. When they ring, we answer. We’re thinking you want to talk to whoever you want to talk to, not a receptionist.
- Desks. We’re creating workzones instead. A large, shared table for when you need one. Comfortable seating for anytime else. Storage in the basement for documents, if we really, truly need to print them out.
- A boardroom. Boardrooms are probably the least effective space for problem solving there is. We’ve got a large blackboard – a really large blackboard painted directly on the wall- and sofas instead. That puts the problem in the middle, not the table.
- Office furniture. We’re setting out to build a creative space, not a factory. Give people office furniture, they start behaving like they’re in an office, shutting down ideas and free thinking.
I concur………..especially the landline. Perhaps you can include my traditional office in the revamp……..perhaps a table in the revised innovation area. I would love to go paperless and work downstairs where the customers are looking at our products. Try to create some energy where it is lacking!!!! ………..Robert
Sure thing Robert. You should have a proposal next week.
